Results of Archaeological Investigations at Ladle House

Archaeological investigations at Ladle House have revealed an Anasazi site with two components; one is Early Anasazi and one is Pueblo II. The Early Anasazi component consists of a series of surface rooms, at least three subsurface pithouses and a midden. The Pueblo II component consists of a block of surface rooms, a subsurface kiva and a trash midden.

The site also contains some structures and features which cannot be assigned to either one of these components, due to the absence of datable materials or the presence of mixed deposits. The problem of mixed deposits also arose during excavation, where it created a subset of artifacts which could not be assigned to either one of these components.

Since the majority of the investigations were focused on the kiva from the Pueblo II component, this component will be discussed first.
